TitleAutograph letter collection of John Marshall
DescriptionThe collection is an autograph collection compiled by Ada Blanche Marshall, daughter of John Marshall, Professor of Surgery, and for the most part being composed of letters sent to Professor Marshall from eminent English people.
The collection is divided in 4 volumes:

Vol. 2: items 193-282
Vol. 3: items 283-385
Vol. 4: items 386-574
Admin HistoryJohn Marshall (1818-1891), anatomist, was born in Ely, the son of William Marshall, a solicitor, and was educated at University College London. He was admitted a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1849, and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1857. He was appointed Professor of Surgery at University College London in 1866, and wrote, among a number of other works, 'The Outlines of Human Physiology, Human and Comparative' (1867). The collection was put together by his daughter, Ada Blanche Marshall, mainly from letters addressed to him.
