Admin History | The South West Theatre Consortium was set up in 1984 in response to the Arts Council's policy paper "The Glory of The Garden" which called for improved arts provision in the regions. The original members were a combination of Producing, Repertory, Touring and Theatre-in-Education companies, namely: Theatre Royal, Plymouth; Northcott Theatre, Exeter; Theatre Alibi; Rent-A-Role; Orchard Theatre Company; and Kneehigh Theatre. The consortium's artistic strategy focused on diverse provision of drama in the South West and developing shared resources to enrich this provision and enhance the work of the member companies. The consortium was funded by the Arts Council and Devon County Council, with members also raising sponsorship for individual projects. The consortium disbanded in 1998. |
