TitleSouth Arabian Amirates, by Salah al-Bakri
DescriptionA 180-page typescript, stapled and bound in green card, of a work entitled 'South Arabian Amirates' by Salah al-Bakri al Yafi'i (1912-93), author of 'Ta'rikh Hadramaut Al Siyasi [Political History of Hadhramaut]' (Cairo, 1935-36) and 'Fi sharq al-Yaman' (Cairo, 1955). Although undated, this appears to have been written in the late 1950s and may have been acquired by Bidwell while he was working for the Western Aden Protectorate. It is aimed at providing a comprehensive history of Aden and the South Arabian amirates such as al-'Awaliq, al-Fudhla, Yafi', al-Wahidi, al-Subaihi and Lahj, from ancient geology through to the present day (1959). There are spaces marked for illustrations, maps and drawings, indicating that it was perhaps a draft for a proposed publication.
