Description | The Deed of Restoration [also known as the Refoundation Charter or the Deed of Reconstitution] dated 01 March 1557 and signed by Cardinal Pole in the name of the Pope. The charter formally restores and reinstates Syon Abbey to its former state in England, in accordance with the wishes of the King and Queen. It names the religious (both monks and nuns) in the community at the time of the restoration, and appoints Katherine Palmer as abbess and Father John Green as confessor general. It also defines the rights and privileges granted to the community. |
