DescriptionComprising:

- Notebook (c 1868-1873) marked 'J Heys' on the inside cover, containing manuscript notes in Sister Mary Magdalen's hand. Also containing some inserted papers;

- Notebook (1881-1918) in Sister Mary Magdalen's hand, containing a manuscript transcript of 'St Ignatius' System of Prayer' and several inserted papers, including notes, correspondence and clippings. All inserted papers are in Sister Mary Magdalen's hand, with the exception of two items dated 1918, which may have belonged to the subsequent abbess, Sister Mary Teresa Jocelyn;

- Manuscript notebook containing diary entires in Sister Mary Magdalen's hand, dated January 1882 to October 1887;

- Notebook (1883-1886) marked 'Notes for the Abbess' containing administrative notes and some inserted papers;

- Envelope of notes in Sister Mary Magdalen's hand, including on fruit trees and apples, to-do lists, books, and spiritual matters. The envelope also includes newspaper clippings, including on an 'unrecorded work' of Michael Angelo, Sweden, and a 'grand rural fete and bazaar at Filleigh' in Chudleigh 'for the benefit of the Bridgettine Nuns of the Syon Abbey';

- Two manscript notebooks containing notes on a variety of topics;

- Certificate of Admission to the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face, dated 1892.
Admin HistorySister Mary Magdalen Heys acted as abbess of the community between 1882 and 1897, and conducted the community from Spetisbury to Chudleigh in 1887.
