- Mixed bundle of papers from a box originally marked 'M.M. Nevin papers'. It includes: a pamphlet entitled 'Solemn Blessing of the Lady Abbess at Syon Abbey, Chudleigh, S. Devon.' [relating to Sister Mary Teresa Jocelyn]; press clippings relating to the Bridgettine Breviary and the Centenary celebrations; biographical notes on Winefred [or Winifred] Hill; manuscript note addressed to 'Dear Mother' regarding the farm; envelope with a 'scrap of circular inside'; an imprint of a seal; correspondence addressed to 'Lucy Nevin' regarding the death of Sister Cecilia in Madrid (1928-1951); a document entitled 'Copy of a letter from Miss Elizabeth Huddleston to Mrs Neve'; a letter from the English Convent in Bruges regarding a cure, dated 1912;
- Manuscript booklet given to 'the Abbess of Syon' [Sister Mary Magdalen] 'from a Monk of Buckfast' [Abbey] on her Golden Jubilee, dated August 1960;
- Painted cut-out of a heraldic crown. The name 'Nevin' is marked on the crown. |
Admin History | Sister Mary Magdalen Nevin was elected as perpetual abbess of Syon Abbey in 1946 and continued to act as abbess until her death in 1964. |
