Includes "one of the many beginnings of Lucifer (noted in May 1951)", beginnings to chapters 'No escape from the war' ("this is a chapter for Lucifer, withdrawn because Wit's misery being scrapped, the connexion is broken with the first book") and 'Penelope'.
