Admin History | Edward Seago [1910-1974] was a landscape painter and writer. He had a severe heart condition which confined him to bed from time to time and compensated his lack of a continuous formal education with self-discipline in learning. He worked with his friend John Masefield, the poet laureate on pieces combining poems and paintings like 'The Country Scene' (1937), 'Tribute to Ballet' (1938), and 'A Generation Risen' (1942). During the Second World War he joined the army as a camouflage officer first and then as a war painter, painting the final stages of the Italian campaign. He also wrote 'Peace in War' in 1943 and 'High Endeavour' in 1944. He settled in Norfolk after the war. |
