Includes entries relating to time spent with friends and family; social engagements; proceedings in the House of Commons, including debating and voting on budget resolutions and the military conscription bill; committee meetings; opening of Parliament by the King; meetings with parliamentary colleagues; political duties in his constituency of Luton; a conference of employers and operative in the cotton trade in Lancashire (11 Apr); conscription of unmarried men; the Secret Session of Parliament (25 Apr); the Easter Rising and the political situation in Ireland; work in the Treasury with Reginal McKenna MP; a travel to Dublin, including political meetings (19 May-10 Jun); a trip to the Aircraft Manufacturing Coy in Hendon; meetings of the Old Boys' Corps; a visit to the cinema to see films of the Somme battles (11 Nov); the First World War; a reconstruction of government (03-08 Dec); the first meeting of the House of Commons under David Lloyd George's government (12 Dec); and Christmas.
