Title | Typescript transcripts and copies of Cecil Harmsworth's diaries [1903-1945] |
Description | This series comprises typescript and carbon copies of Cecil Harmsworth's manuscript diaries dating from 1903-1945, including his travel diaries to Newfoundland and Greece. These transcripts of Cecil Harmsworth's diaries were made during his lifetime. Between the late 1920s-1940s, Cecil Harmsworth edited his manuscript diaries before giving them to Isobel Nicholson to type. The copies were then preserved both at Cecil Harmsworth's home Lime Lodge in Egham, Surrey, as well at Leicester Harmsworth House in Plymouth.
This series does not include copies of his diaries for 1900, 1946, 1947 or 1948. It does include a copy of Cecil Harmsworth's diary for 1906, for which there is no complete manuscript original existing within the archive (however, pages from a 1906 pocket diary can be found in EUL MS 435/1/1/12 and EUL MS 435/1/1/23). For content descriptions of each diary, see EUL MS 435/1/1. |
