Description | This series represents an almost complete run (except 1939 and 1940) of Jack Clemo's personal diaries from 1935 until his death in 1994.
The diaries record various observations and comments on issues such as health problems, literary output, personal relationships, faith, mood changes, world events etc. Jack Clemo's financial situation is recorded in the statements and correspondence pasted into the diaries and in the annual summaries he wrote himself in the front or back of each volume. He was also in the habit of making summaries of literary output or achievements for each year as well as summaries of generally significant events. He was also in the habit of pasting or inserting various letters, press cuttings and other emphemera into the volumes.
Ruth Clemo has annotated many of the diary entries, and for the latter part of the 1994 diary, all entries are in her hand. |
