Title | University photographs: Streatham campus: halls of residence M-R |
Description | Photographs and glass plate negatives of halls of residence on the Streatham campus, with names beginning M-R, comprising the following: Mardon Hall, Nash Grove, Pencarrow House and Reed Hall (arranged individually by file). A detailed description of each hall is given below:
i) Mardon Hall One file of exterior photographs plus a study bedroom [1970s-1980s]. Also glass plate negatives. The purpose-built Mardon Hall was completed in 1933 and named after E J Mardon, who gave £25,000 towards the cost.
ii)Nash Grove One file containing a single exterior photograph [1980s].
iii)Pencarrow House One file containing a single exterior photograph [1980s].
iv)Reed Hall One file of interior and exterior views, including a study bedroom and the dining hall [1920s]; views of the gardens and grounds, adjacent tennis courts, extension and Reed Mews [1920s-1970s]. Also glass plate negatives. Originally named Streatham Hall, the building was acquired in 1922 and renamed after Alderman W H Reed, a former mayor of Exeter, who bought it for the University College for £8,000. It opened in 1925.
