TitleCyborg: A Folk Tale of the Future
DescriptionI
Admin HistoryWritten, designed and directed by John Downie 'Cyborg' is a folk tale for the future set the 21st century. A modern adaptation of Woyzeck by Geog Buchner this piece saw a noteable shift in Kneehigh's work. The dark, funny and futuristic Woyzeck character was played by Tristan Sturrock as a cyborg with increasingly human emotion. This production also draws on work by Brian Eno, Hans Magnus Enzensberger, Robert Wallace and Pico Della Mirandola. Successfully performed at the Edinburgh Festival it received national acclaim. However, it was less well received with local audiences in Cornwall who found it too different to the usual Kneehigh productions. This production also prompted Jim Carey toward musical directorship. John Downie went on be head of Film and Theatre at Wellington University New Zealand.
