Admin HistoryThe Edyvean Canal ran between Porth to Mawgan Porth via St.Columb Major and was created to carry mainly sand, seaweed and stone. Work started in 1773 but the canal was never completed. John Edyvean was a wealthy man and was as an advocate of canal building in the 18th century. In 1777 he proposed a scheme for a lockless canal system covering the whole country.
